In Herat province, authorities addressed the case of a woman and secured her Sharia rights after 16 years of being in an unresolved situation

Officials of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, in Herat Province addressed the case of a woman who had remained in an uncertain marital status for 16 years and facilitated the fulfillment of her Sharia-based rights.

Haji Sheikh Aziz-ur Rahman Al-Muhajir, Head of the Promotion of Virtue Department in Herat Province, said that the woman had been living at her parents’ home, separated from her husband, for the past 16 years.

During this period, neither her husband nor his relatives had called her back to continue their marital life, nor had she been granted a divorce. As a result, she had spent many years in a state of uncertainty and limbo.

After she approached the Department of the Promotion of Virtue in Herat and filed a complaint, officials (Muhtasibs) of the department reviewed her case and took the necessary measures in accordance with the principles of Islamic Sharia and with the aim of ensuring her religiously recognized rights.

As a result, the woman was freed from her 16-year state of uncertainty, and her Sharia-based rights were secured.

Officials of the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints in Herat Province stated that addressing people’s complaints and ensuring their Sharia-based rights, particularly in family-related cases, are among the ministry’s fundamental responsibilities.

They added that people’s cases, especially those involving women, are reviewed and resolved in accordance with Islamic Sharia, justice, and fairness.
