The officials (Muhtasibs) of the Nangarhar Directorate of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing the Complaints of IEA, reaffirming their commitment to women’s rights and to preventing acts of violence against women in society, helped rescue a young woman through the mediation of religious scholars and tribal elders after her family members attempted to marry her off against her will in exchange for a large amount of money.

In this regard, officials (Muhtasibs) of the provincial Directorate of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice said that the young woman, who is a resident of Pachiragam District, had been intended by her family members to be married off in an un-Islamic marriage against her wishes in exchange for a large sum of money. The religious inspectors intervened and prevented the marriage.

The officials (Muhtasibs) also assured that they would not allow anyone to violate women’s rights and would make every effort to prevent all harmful practices and incidents that threaten women’s rights.

This comes as inspectors (Muhtasibs) from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints have reportedly prevented thousands of cases involving women’s rights including forced marriages, domestic confinement, domestic violence, bride price (walwar), and inheritance in various provinces across the country, and continue their efforts to protect women’s rights.
