In continuation of the efforts by the personnel (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, to prevent forced marriages, six women in the provinces of Kabul, Faryab, Baghlan, and Uruzgan were rescued from coerced marriages.

Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue stated in the mentioned provinces that these cases involved six women whose families intended to force them into marriage with men they did not approve of.

After the complaints were registered and investigated, the ministry’s personnel prevented these marriages from taking place.

In addition, the families involved were summoned by the personnel of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue to the relevant departments, where they were given the necessary guidance regarding the Islamic rights of women and their freedom to choose a spouse. As a result, the family members expressed remorse and pledged that from now on they would respect all the Is/la/mic rights of women in every aspect of life and would marry off their daughters only with their consent.

Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints once again emphasized that forced marriage is against the principles and rulings of Is/la/mic Sh/ar/ia, and no one has the right to force a woman into marriage without her consent.
