Summary of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints’ Activities Over the Past Week

The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints, within the framework of Islamic rulings and values and with the aim of promoting virtue, preventing vice, strengthening Islamic brotherhood, and addressing the Sharia rights of the people, particularly women, carried out a number of significant activities during the past week.

1. Completion of Training Seminars for Muhtasibs:

During the past week, four-day training seminars for Muhtasibs from the centers and districts of Parwan, Kapisa, Laghman, Nangarhar, Kunar, and Nuristan provinces were organized and completed by the General Directorate of Education and Training for Muhtasibs and Preachers. The seminars covered topics related to the implementation of the Law on the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, respectful treatment of the public, improving professional knowledge and skills, and strengthening outreach capacities.

2. Combating Witchcraft:

Officials of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints, as part of efforts to safeguard Islamic values and enforce Sharia rulings, identified and arrested seven individuals during the past week on charges of practicing witchcraft in Balkh, Ghazni, Kandahar, and Bamyan provinces.

3. Resolving Disputes and Hostilities:

During the past week, ministry officials, in cooperation with religious scholars and tribal elders, resolved 12 cases of hostility and 59 family, tribal, and local disputes, with the aim of strengthening Islamic brotherhood, promoting peace, and enhancing social cohesion.

4. Economic Meetings:

To regulate markets, prevent hoarding and price gouging, and protect consumers’ rights, Muhtasibs of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice held 228 reform and awareness-raising meetings with traders and shopkeepers during the past week. The meetings emphasized compliance with Sharia principles, supplying quality goods, and preventing hoarding and price gouging.

5. Addressing Women’s Sharia Rights:

During the past week, officials of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice and Hearing of Complaints addressed 100 cases related to women’s Sharia rights. As a result, 43 cases of injustice against women and 14 cases of forced marriage were prevented, seven inheritance cases were reviewed, and the rights to dowry of 13 women were restored. In addition, 11 cases concerning maintenance and seven divorce cases were addressed, and arrangements were made for five young women to enter into marriages in accordance with Sharia.
