Muhtasibs in Sar-e Pol and Nimroz Provinces Arrest Three Individuals on Charges of Practicing Sorcery

Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints of IEA, have arrested three people in the provinces of Sar-e Pol and Nimroz on allegations of practicing witchcraft, as part of their ongoing reform efforts and monitoring activities aimed at preventing acts deemed contrary to Islamic Sharia and combating superstitions.
Local officials of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue in the two provinces said the individuals were identified following complaints from local residents and during monitoring activities conducted by the ministry’s inspectors.
They were subsequently arrested after preliminary investigations. Books, objects, and other items allegedly used in performing magical practices were reportedly recovered from the arrested individuals.
Officials (Muhtasibs) also said documents and evidence had been obtained indicating that the individuals were accused of contributing to disputes and divisions among families, particularly between married couples, and of receiving large sums of money from some people in exchange for performing alleged magical practices.
The ministry’s officials (Muhtasibs) in the two provinces added that, following preliminary investigations, the arrested individuals were referred to judicial and legal authorities for further legal proceedings and to ensure what they described as Sharia-based justice.
Officials (Muhtasibs) of the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Hearing of Complaints emphasized that combating witchcraft and superstitious practices would continue. 
They said acts deemed contrary to Islamic Sharia, deceiving people, and exploiting religious beliefs are among the issues addressed through their reform and monitoring activities.
They also called on the public to report to the relevant authorities any cases of alleged witchcraft or activities that deceive people or cause disputes and harm to families and society.
